The Glenglassaugh Torfa is a richly peated expression, smoky and phenolic and a unique type of whisky in the Highlands. It's produced using peated malted barley, dried in a traditional way over peat-infused kilns, infusing the whisky with a beautiful, unique smoky taste on the palate. The smokiness of this expression makes it a stand out whisky in the Glenglassaugh range, and one that shouldn't be missed. Bottled at 50% volume with a natural colour, the Torfa is non-chill filtered. The Glenglassaugh distillery dates back to 1875, and was revived in 2008 with the Revival expression. New ownersThe BenRiach Distillery Company have since bottled several other expressions including the Torfa.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Vivid, sweet, sooty campfire smoke and sea air infuses zest of lime, apricot jam and ripe soft fruits; all gently warmed by hints of stem ginger and cracked black pepper.
Palate: An eloquent, sweet coastal peat smoke engulfs candied peel over melon, pineapple and roasted red apples. Oat biscuits, hints of heather honey and a gentle cigar box spice all combine to give a terrific balance to the expressive smoky character.
Finish: A heady, yet elegant, harmony of distinct coastal peat and striking spiced fruit flavours.
