Crafted from a rarer blend of casks, Craigellachie 17 is a classic example of their unapologetic and distinct Whisky style, smooth and mellow in flavour with rich silky notes of exotic fruits.
Today they still use old - fashioned 'worm tubs' to cool their spirit and bestow it with extra flavour creating a dram to rival whiskies twice its age. A worm tub is a long copper tube, sitting in a large tank of cold water, which shakes back and forth and gradually gets narrower. In 1891 many distilleries condensed their spirit this way, giving their whiskies a distinctive meaty character. Craigellachie is one of very few still benefiting from this traditional technique.
CASK TYPE: Initially matured in a mixture of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks. 50% of the 'blend' is then finished in first-fill Sherry casks, the rest in first-fill Bourbon.
All Craigellachie expressions are non-chill filtered, contain no caramel colouring and are bottled at 46% ABV.
Nose: vanilla, exotic fruit, dried pineapple, cereal notes and some spice.
