Benriach Whisky – A Single Malt Scotch Whisky Distilled In The Speyside Area Of Scotland
The Taste of BenRiach Whisky
Like many classic Speyside whiskys, BenRiach scotch whiskys exhibit a sophisticated fruit-filled flavour. However, the whisky’s unique distillation process causes higher levels of esters to be captured in the spirit, producing a balanced but multifaceted fruit palate.
The spirits that are aged in rum or sherry casks absorb the ingrained flavour of the wood to deliver earthy, nutty and other savoury flavours.
The History of The BenRiach Distillery
The BenRiach distillery was established over 100 years ago by John Duff, and is still located in the highland villages of Rothes and Elgin. The Speyside region is surrounded by some of the finest whisky distilleries in the world, and BenRich is no exception.
BenRiach is located close to the Longmorn Distillery which was originally also owned by John Duff. A private railway was also built to join the two distilleries, with a locomotive called Puggy being used to transport ingredients and barrels between the two.
Due to the bankruptcy of a major whisky purchaser, BenRiach halted production in 1900, and didn’t begin production again until 1965 under Glenlivet Distillers Ltd. The distillery was then bought by Seagrams in 1978, who then merged with Pernod Richard in 2001. In 2004 BenRiach was acquired by the BenRiach Distillery Company Limited.
