The Glen Elgin Distillery dates back all the way to 1898, and it's situated up in the Speyside region. Using six stills and six wooden worm tubs, Glen Elgin produces a wonderfully fruity, flavoursome spirit which is very popular among blenders. This is the 12-year-old expression, the only official distillery bottling from Glen Elgin, boasting those aforementioned fruit notes alongside helpings of buttery vanilla and sweet spices.
Nose - Pleasant nose, with hints of sweet malt and a refreshing mentholated note. Rather fruity, showing oranges, lots of juicy Granny Smith apples, unripe pineapple. Some honey. A soft floral note too.
Palate - Same fruitiness (citrus, apple) with more spices (pepper, nutmeg, ginger) – overall a bit drier than the nose suggested. Hints of gingerbread and very light mocha. Some tangy orange zest. Salted butter. Mildly bitter woody notes towards the end.
Finish - Medium long, bittersweet, on malt, nutmeg, and chestnuts.
