THE SPEYSIDE JOURNEY
No, not the town. of the same name that is in Fife in eastern Scotland but rather the ancient village of Rothes located on Speyside that has a history of almost 1000 years.
Formerly home to five distilleries all are hidden away up little side streets apart from Glen Grant. This another distillery that has lived in the shadow of others for too long, jumping between the Edrington Group and Berry Brothers in the past 20 years. In that time at Edrington, Macallan and Highland Park were the giants, but it is wonderful to see Glenrothes regain its rightful place on Speyside.
The distillery is separated from Glen Grant by the local cemetery and it is said the two distilleries even share ghosts including Biawa Makalanga, a Masai orphan brough back to Scotland from Africa by the then owners of another distillery.
