I was rather excited to take delivery of this more unusual Johnnie Walker Blue Label from the Ghost and Rare releases, not only because this series celebrates lost distilleries but because this, the third in the series contains whisky from the Glenury Royal distillery from my own hometown of Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire which fell silent back in 1985. Each release in this stunning range offers a fleeting opportunity to savour the depth and character of whiskies from ‘ghost’ distilleries that have long since closed, but whose spirit still lives on in the dwindling stocks of their maturing whiskies. As well as using whisky from the closed distillery of Glenury Royal, this limited edition bottle also contains other rare single malt and grain whiskies, including Inchgower, Glenlossie, Glen Elgin, Pittyvaich, Cambus, Cameronbridge and Glenkinchie to create an elegant blend like no other.
