Amrut presents a single malt drawn from two exceptional casks, ex-bourbon and portpipe casks that have survived in the tropics for over five years. Bottled in June 2017 this is one bottle of 1050 produced. The history of Amrut Distilleries is as old as the history of independent India itself. Indeed, just as India is now noted as one of the world’s leading economies, so too is Amrut Distilleries an industry leader. In 1948, as India was taking its place as an independent nation, Amrut Distilleries entered the field of liquor making, with an initial investment of a few lakhs. Today’s success has been made possible by the resolve of successive generations of the Jagdale family to embrace value and quality.
Tasting Notes
Nose - A rich, honeyed profile with loads of vanilla pods and creamy cake. Also quite floral, mainly buttercups. There’s plenty of fruits: pineapple candy, pink grapefruit, banana, caramelized apples… Apple pie. Hints of sweet oak and barley sugar.
Taste - A liquid fruit salad with papaya, kiwi, mango and pineapple, lifted by notes of lime. So much fruit, so much body, so much roundness. Again a coating of vanilla and powdered sugar. Subtle spices.
Finish - Long and fruity. Delicate oak with cinnamon and very light pepper.
